My Thirteen Favorite Comics of 2016

It turns out when you're not primarily a critic, you don't have to justify your selections with long-winded explanations. You just throw a list up! So, here's my favorite comics from 2016, the books I looked forward to reading the most or, in a totally subjective way, the kind of stuff that I think comics should be doing as a medium.

1) Starve by Brian Wood & Danijel Zezelj (Image)
2) Lazarus by Greg Rucka & Michael Lark (Image)
3) The Autumnlands by Kurt Busiek & Benjamin Dewey (Image)
4) House of Penance by Peter J. Tomasi & Ian Bertram (Dark Horse)
5) Nod Away by Joshua Cotter (Fantagraphics)
6) Three Sisters by Ingrida Picukane (Kus! Comics)
7) Laid Waste by Julia Gfrorer (Fantagraphics)
8) Britannia by Peter Milligan & Juan Jose Ryp (Valiant)
9) Deadly Class by Rick Remender & Wes Craig (Image)
10) Sheriff of Babylon by Tom King & Mitch Gerads (DC/Vertigo)
11) The Vision by Tom King & Gabriel Walta (Marvel)
12) Manifest Destiny by Chris Dingess & Matthew Roberts (Image)
13) Shipwreck by Warren Ellis & Phil Hester (AfterShock)

Brian Wood @ Yesteryear Comics [Signing]

I’m very happy to announce that my retail sponsor Yesteryear Comics has their next in-store signing scheduled for Wednesday, December 28th, 2016. This signing will feature Brooklyn based writer and multiple Eisner Award nominee Brian Wood (Briggs Land, Starve, Rebels, The Massive, Aliens: Defiance).

He’ll be in the store from 10am to 2pm. Brian’s got a plethora of great books to choose from, including the recent Briggs Land #1 Retailer Exclusive Variant Cover by artist Mack Chater. It was limited to just 500 copies, and there are still a few available, for this series which is already in development at AMC for TV.

I’ll be working this event, so stop by to say hi and support creator owned comics. Additionally, I'll be acting as a CGC Witness and verifying signatures for anyone interested in submitting books for professional grading. For more information, check out Facebook.com/YesteryearComics.
